Similar to how the face ages, the neckline also shows signs of aging. Even though the neck isn’t directly exposed to the sun, the skin on the neck starts to lose elasticity and change in texture as you get older. Additionally, patients also tend to accumulate more fat and skin around the chin and neck as they age. Luckily, here at Pollei Facial Plastic Surgery of Beverly Hills & Mission Viejo, Dr. Taylor Pollei can perform a procedure called a neck lift to help lift and tighten the skin around the neck, while also getting rid of excess fat.
The goal of this procedure is to counteract signs of aging to give you a more youthful look. Just like with any surgical procedure, one of the most important steps is the recovery process. Although we will send you home with a detailed list of your recovery steps, let’s take a closer look at what you can expect once you are sent home to recover.
ELEVATE YOUR HEAD
Once you are sent home and are resting, try to keep your head elevated at a 45-degree angle with an angled wedge. This elevation will help ease swelling, but you don’t want to elevate it too much that it presses your neck forward
AVOID EXERCISE
Even though exercise is one of the best things you can do for your body, it’s a no-no while you’re recovering from surgery. Exercise can tear open your incisions, place stress on your body, and could lead to a potential infection as well.
REST, REST, REST
The most important thing you can do while you are in recovery is rest. Even though you may want to get up and get going right away, your body needs as much rest as it can get to heal itself fast. On average, patients return to work two weeks after surgery which means that you should be resting for the majority of those two weeks.
CLEAN YOUR DRAIN
In some instances, patients will be sent home with a neck lift drain to help drain the fluid from the incision site faster and speed up your recovery. If you have a drain, make sure that you clean it properly and call us if you have any questions.
